Zürich summer conference

from 28 to 30 June

Opernhaus Zürich will host Opera Europa’s major conference during the first half of 2018. The later than usual dates are 28 to 30 June.

How do you measure achievement in the arts? Against which criteria does an opera company assess its own performance? What values are set by our stakeholders?

During the current season, Opera Europa has been encouraging its members to share performance data by means of two surveys.
The first is a mapping exercise which seeks answers to 20 simple questions, designed to collect information which may be aggregated to offer a broad picture of activity and productivity within the operatic sector in Europe.

The second is a benchmarking exercise which aims to gather in our confidential database information which contributing theatres may access for their own comparative purposes.

Both these measurements are quantitative. Is it also possible to measure quality? Our summer conference will explore this issue, and attempt to discover solutions which may be of practical use to our member theatres now and in the future.

Our hosts at Opernhaus Zürich offer the perfect ambiance for this conference and Opera Europa’s Annual General Assembly. They also offer a choice of outstanding and contrasted new productions, from which delegates may select one, two or three.
